Palladian Calendar
North Meadow Media is proud to have been selected by Palladian Press to create its 2009 desk calendar, sent free of charge to its valued clients.
Designed by Barry Lowenhoff, the calendar features a giant Palladian ‘P’ logo photographed in various locations in East Anglia. The shots were taken by Harland Payne Photography during November and December, and a short introduction was provided by NMM’s Ben Locker.
If you would like an equally distinctive gift for your own clients, get in touch today.

Point & Shoot: 1925
Some mornings are destined to be good. This one has been brightened by a link to the glorious picture below provided by @zemblamatic on Twitter. It’s the ‘Girls’ rifle team of Drexel Institute’, taken in about 1925, and it comes from Shorpy, a brilliant site which I’ve added to the list of sites we love. The only thing that’s bugging me is the fact there’s only seven of them – when I used to shoot in rifle teams, I’m pretty sure there were eight of us. Maybe the missing member is behind the camera?
Also new to the blogroll/ links list are the following sites, recommended by Barry: Ffffound!, COLOURlovers, Swiss Miss and BB-Blog.

Photo Finish
It’s great to see that Stephanie and Judy from Harland Payne Photography have published their new website. These two seriously talented photographers have worked with us on a variety of projects, recently including the beautifully-illustrated Palladian Impressions newsletter. We hope to work with them on many occasions in the future.

East Anglian Vision
Palladian Press’s twin enthusiasm for the people and places of East Anglia inspired the firm to commission a new marketing pack that uses high-quality imagery and printing to tell the story of their area, and to emphasise the human side of its business.
The result, Visions from East Anglia, is a beautifully produced gatefold box that houses two slip cases. Inside the first you can find cards that feature every single member of Palladian Press: designers, drivers, press minders, customer services staff, administrators, bindery operatives and everyone else in the firm’s team.

The second component of the pack is a series of specially commissioned postcards that feature artists’ and photographers’ interpretations of East Anglia’s distinctive coastline, with its rich texture and many contrasts. You’ll find striking woodcuts by Felixstowe printmaker Clare Curtis, ethereal black and white photographs by Suffolk photographer Colin Turner, marine linocuts by Brightlingsea-born illustrator James Dodds and, completing the set, digital art and photography by Colchester duo Stephanie Harland and Judy Payne. The pack itself was designed by North Meadow Media’s Barry Lowenhoff, whilst the pack title and copy for the postcards element was provided by Ben Locker.
Visions from East Anglia has been an invaluable marketing tool: beautiful printing inspires many more potential clients than the run-of-the-mill sales catalogues that land on our desks every day of the week.

Barbican History
Ben Locker wrote a teachers’ resource to accompany the Barbican’s prestigious In the Face of History photographic exhibition. The pack was aimed at secondary history teachers, but was crammed with cross-curricular links and activities, as well as ideas for follow-up work in the classroom.
“Ben worked with me to produce a teachers’ resource for the Barbican Art Gallery exhibition In the Face of History. His writing was excellent, he followed the brief carefully and had obviously spent a great deal of time preparing and considering the best way to approach the project. He worked according to a fairly tight schedule, produced work on time and was always easy to communicate with.” Anna Dent, Barbican Education Officer
You can download a copy of the resource here.
